JuniorSenior at Bizkaia Creaktiva

25-03-10

It was an interesting first day at the Bizkaia Creaktiva Conference in Bilbao where creative minds from around the globe talk together how we can put Bilbao on the Creative Map. To be realistic; the wish from the local governement to be a Creative City is not very original; almost every city on Earth has defined its own Creative Resolution. We know that it is important for a city to have a creative industry; the people that are having their head filled with ideas can move things forward and change societies. But they need to be surrounded by like-minded people to share, discuss, learn, motivate and create new innovative ideas that change the(ir) world. So after Creative Kuala Lumpur, Creative Edinborough and Creative Johannesburg it is now Bilbao that is striving for its own Creative Industry.

One thing becomes clear to the participants of Bizkaia Creaktiva: the dualism is that there must be a new system that creates rules to be creative and creativity hates systems and rules; in fact creativity needs anarchy! Breaking the rules is the only way out to see new horizons. A city with a creative industry needs chaos, lots of students, gay people and political instability. The last element might seems strange but  a big gap between rich and poor people will motivate creative people stronger instead of everybody being in a comfortzone. That is probably the main reason why Sweden has lost a lot of its creative imago because the society is very well balanced and under control. Bilbao should start a revolution! Yeah, bring in the chaos and see what happens. That is going to be an interesting experiment. To be continued!
